Police are investigating after a distressed 19-year-old girl recorded herself on Periscope stepping in front of a commuter train about 25 miles south of Paris in Evry, France. Her name has not been released to the public yet but the French officials are now investigating the incident.
Local prosecutor Eric Lallement told the Times in a statement: “This person allegedly sent an SMS to one of her close relations, several minutes before her death, to announce her intentions. Furthermore, she allegedly made statements to Internet users, via the Periscope application, to explain her act.” The broadcast has since been removed from Periscope, but there are several YouTube videos (with the suicide removed) that seem to be from the same broadcast.
According to another news media, Le Point, she called herself a victim of rape in her final video and also named her rapist.
She also said what she is doing is not to get a “social media buzz” but to “open people’s minds.”
People did not take her serious when she was live streaming until it was all too late.
However, someone did alert the local police that was watching the live stream.
